Khayer Lake trek is one of the least crowded trek in the center of the Annapurna Conservation Area. This trek also known as a Khopra ridge trek or Khopra trek among the trekkers. Khopra ridge is the last destiantions where you sleep overnight to go to the Hike of the Khayer lake 4500 Meters.
Khayer lake one of the sacred lakes in the annapurna regions where local devotees go there to worship the god. Trek to Khayer lake is quite challenging which starts from the Khopra ridge hotel. This is a very mesmerizing hike that passes the waterfalls, snow lands, and drylands to reach the Holy Khayer Lake. Most of the trekkers hike to Khayer Lake to see the Himalayan Range and Lake. There is a small temple of the Khayer Barahai on the bank of the Khayer lake. Magar Community and Hindu people go there for pilgrimage activities. At the time of the Janai Purnima, many Hindu devotees come here to get the blessing. The trail passes the brown and barren landscape where you can see shepherds. People also sacrifice the sheep to the Baraha Temple.
Khayer lake trek is one of the best trekking routes in Annapurna because it is significantly less known among the trekkers. Due to Newly opened trail it is also known as one of the best off-the-beaten path trek of the Annapurna which offers the best trek experince to the trekkers who want’s to avoid the big crowd. The trek starts from Ghandruk, goes to the Tadapani and then moves upwards to Dobato, Shristibung, and Khopra Danda. This trail is very pleasurable to walk because the path goes through the alpine forest to view the massive Annapurna range. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Nilgiri (7,061m), Bhara Shikhar (7,647m), Annapurna I (8091m), Machhapuchhre (6,997m), and many other peaks view is mindblowing. From the different places, you can see the different views of those mountains on this trail. Mulde peak 3634, Khopra Danda 3660 Meters and Poon Hill 3210 Meters offer the best view of the Himalayas. Different types of the flora and fauna make the Khayer lake trek even more interesting. Autumn season is the best time to do the Khayer Lake trek. The Autumn season is considered the best time to trek in Nepal. Known as a post-monsoon time in which the temperatures neither become too hot nor cold. At this time the weather remains perfect because the day is full of sunlight and you can see a clear view of the Himalayas. The visibility is very good during this period so you can enjoy your trek with an outstanding view of the Himalayas. Most of the trekkers choose the Autumn season for the trek.
The Spring season is the pre-monsoon season and the second-best time of the year to do the Khayer Lake Trek. This is also a time when normally the temperatures are pretty high as compared to other times of the year. Usually, the weather remains perfect with less chance of clouds, snowfalls and rain. at the end of the spring season, the weather can be bad sometimes. Due to the warm temperatures, climbers climb the high mountains this time. Rhododendron blossom in the forest increases the beauty of the trek.
The rainy season starts from June to August. During the monsoon season, the trekking experience is not that good. Usually, the weather becomes cloudy and rainy so you can not enjoy the trek. There is also the possibility of landslides and floods during these seasons. We do not recommend trekking to tourists this season because the experience is not that great.
This is a cold time and not appropriate for the trek in the high himalayas. There is a chance of snowfalls and cloudy weather so the trekkers may suffer. The temperatures drops very low and high passes trek are very dangerous due to the snowfalls. If you want to do the trek in the Himalayas then the risk is yours at this time.
Khayer lake is elevated at the altitude of 4500 Meters. It is an 8-9 hours hike from the Khopra Danda 3660 Meters. The holy Lake Khayer is also a sacred for both Hindus and Buddhist pilgrimage. Annapurna south mountains are just in front of the Khayer lake. The trail to Khayer lake offers a breath talking view of the Dhulagiri ranges which includes Tukuche peak, Dhampus Peak, Dhaulagiri II, Dhaulagiri 8,167 Meters, Gurja peak and many other surroundings Himalayas. Local pilgrimages and others visit this lake during the festival of the Janai Purnima.

Khayer lake trek is a moderate grade trek. Moderate grade means trek up to the height of 4500 Meters. It does not require that much level of fitness and good age. Anyone who can hike 6-7 hours per hour in a day can do the Khayer lake trek. Trekkers must remember that it is a mountain terrain and frequent ascending and descending part of the hike. The trail to ice lake is pretty hard nearby Khayer lake. Usually, in the winter, the ice frozen trails are slippery so it is better to have a some ice crampons and trekking poles. Trekkers need to have a warm gears to avoid the altitude mountain sickness plus enough fluids drinks. Other than the mountain sickness trekkers may face other problem like Diherihea, headache, stomach aching and many other problems which you need to have your own medicine that you are using in your country.
