When is the best time for trekking in Nepal?

Spring (March, April, and May) and Autumn (October, November, and early December) are the best seasons for trekking in Nepal. During this time, the sky remains clear with the blue sky, and visibility is very clear, so you can enjoy the mountain scenery perfectly, and this time is also suitable in terms of the weather and temperature. Below, we have described what it looks like to trek in each season in Nepal

  • 1. Spring Seasons (March, April and May)

    • Pleasant Temperatures: In this season, in the lower areas, the temperatures are pretty hot, whereas above 4000 meters, the temperatures during the day are typically 10°C to 25°C when it is sunny, but at night, it will be cold and can go up to -0 o -5°C. So the time is considered pleasant for the trek

    • Stable & Clear Skies (Especially Mornings): Spring is characterised by stable weather and sunny days. Mornings typically offer crystal-clear blue sky, splendid views of the Annapurna and Dhulagiri Himalayan Range

    • Longer Daylight Hours: The spring days are much longer, and you can walk and enjoy till the evening, up to around 7 pm

    • Less possibility of Rain/Snow: There is very little chance of rain and snow in March, April and May. But in May last there is some chance of rain and snow. If it rains in the lower area, then there is snowfall in the Higher Area.

    • Rhododendron and magnolia flowers bloom: in this season, in the lower annapurna area, the rhododendron and magnolia flowers blossoms that makes the landscapes and forest even more amazing and beautiful. The trees of the forests get the new baby green leaves, which is also very nice.

    • Crowd on the trek: due to one of the best seasons, the Annapurna Base Camp area gets quite a lot of tourists, which makes the tea house and trek trail pretty busy and full.

  • 2. Autumn Seasons (October and November)

    • Perfect Temperatures: Autumn season is the stable, dry, and clear weather after the monsoon because the weather is neither hot nor cold in the lower area, but in the higher area 10°C to 25°C when it is sunny, but at night, it will be cold and can go up to -5 o -10°C at the end of november the temperature drops even more at the night time.

    • Clean and blue sky: Autumn is considered the time of stable weather and sunny days. Mornings to day there will be crystal-clear blue sky, splendid views of the Mighty Himalayan Range

    • Perfect visibility: due to the fantastic weather and clear sky, you can see the perfect views of the mountains and far beyond the ranges

    • Less possibility of Rain/Snow: There is very little chance of rain and snow because it is the post-monsoon season. But there may still be some rain if you do the trek last September to early October. But it is less likely to happen.

    • Dry and safe trails: The post-monsoon season means the trails become much drier and less slippery, which is easier and safer for the trek.

    • Festival seasons: During the Autumn season, Nepali people celebrate their 2 biggest festival celebrations, Dashain and Tihar, during which you can enjoy.

    • Crowd on the trek: due to one of the best seasons, the Annapurna Base Camp area gets quite a lot of tourists, which makes the tea house and trek trail pretty busy and full.

  • 3. Monsoon seasons

Trekkers can trek in monsoon seasons too, but leeches, floods, landslides and a cloudy sky are the problems at this time. We even see many accidents happen during this period. If you have time and do it anyway, then you can do it with the help of a professional guide. The scenery depends on your luck. You can not enjoy the trek this time like in the Spring and Autumn seasons.

  • 4. Winter season

December and January are the coldest months, in this month the temperature is very cold, the weather is mostly cloudy, so it means you can not see a good view of the Himalayas. There is more chance of avalanches and snowfalls on this trek. Also, it is very cold to do the trek, and the temperatures may reach up to -20 or more in Annapurna Base Camp, so it is not recommended to do the Annapurna Base Camp trek. You can choose any month by seeing your time.

Located in the middle of the Annapurna conservation area, the Khopra trek is completely free of crowds and offers stunning views on trekking trails. Khopra trek is done to reach the holy Khayer lake of the Annapurna, which is just behind the Annapurna South at an elevation of 4500 Meters. The trek is completely safe and stunning for all the trekkers, and anybody who wishes to go there can go with some difficulty. The trek starts from Nayapul and can be done either via Ghorepani or from Ghandruk. As you grow higher from the Tadapani, you will trek inside the forest till you reach the Khopra Danda. Once you arrive at the Khopra Danda, you can see the most spectacular view of the Mt Dhaulagiri 8,167 Meters, Dhaulagiri II, Dhaulagiri III, Dhaulagiri IV, Gurja peak, Tukuche peak, Dhampus peak and Nilgiri Mountains.
