How hard is Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek 5 Days?

The 5-day Annapurna Base Camp trek is a moderate type of trek. Annapurna Base Camp is located at an altitude of 4,130 meters. This is not a high-altitude base camp, so trekkers should not worry about the AMS but precautions should be done. The daily trekking time is 6-8 hours because it is a short hike with a significant amount of distance. The trails to Annapurna Base Camp are well-maintained, and in some areas, there are many stairs to make it easier for trekkers. Some trekkers find this annoying, but it is done for their convenience. The stairs are made for the monsoon season easy because in monsoon the trails become muddy and slippery.
Generally, trekkers will not have to climb difficult slopes or walk on icy trails very much. However, it can be more difficult during snowfall, as this makes the trails icy and slippery. In addition, there is a lower risk of altitude sickness. Ups and downs with a series of stone steps are part of the Annapurna Base Camp hikes. The availability of teahouses makes the trek easier on these routes. Overall, if you are able to walk 6-8 hours a day on mountainous terrain, you can easily complete the Annapurna Base Camp trek.

Annapurna base camp trek 5 days itinerary

  • Day 01: Drive to Samrung then trek to Lower Sinuwa 1800 Meters 8-9 Hours

The trek formally starts today with a drive to Samrung from Pokhara. Kiumi is the last station that the jeep goes from Pokhara. The Jeep ride takes around 3 hours and is very enjoyable with stunning Himalayan scenery and green hills. The road to Kiumi is not that good at last but at the start, it is quite ok. There is a tourist check-post at Birethanti where permits are checked to enter the trekking of the Annapurna base camp. When you arrive at Kiumi, you can see the stunning view of Mt Fishtail, Annapurna south 7219 Meters, Himchuli 6400 Meters and Landruk villages. The trek starts from Kiumi which goes to the north following the Modi River upstream and you will see the longest suspension bridge in the Annapurna Region. Just crossing the bridge you will arrive at Jhinu Village. Jhinu is a small settlement and a very good place to enjoy natural hot springs. The hot spring is 15 minutes from Jhinu on the Bank of the Modi River. From Jhinu, the trek goes up climbing stairs to Chomrong which takes around 2 hours. Chomrong offers the best view of the Annapurna Himalayan ranges and it is the biggest Gurung village on the Annapurna base camp trails. Here you can see Gurung cultures, traditions and lifestyles and how they farm. Going down from Chomrong we cross another bridge and climb up to Lower Sinuwa. The Lower Sinuwa is the destination for today.

It is the second day of the Annapurna base camp trek 7 days (ABC Trek 7 days). The hike starts with breakfast at Lower Sinuwa. We follow the trails and move towards the Upper Sinuwa. The trail goes slowly accent till the Upper Sinuwa. Upper Sinuwa is the place from where you can see the perfect view of Mt Fishtail 6,993 Meters. Now the trail goes through the dense forests filled with rhododendron, oak and bamboo bushes. It takes 3 hours to arrive at the Bamboo village. Bamboo is the settlement with 6/7 tea houses and all of them are hotels. From Bamboo, the trails go ahead following the Modi River Upstream through the forests. The trails now become wetter because of the forests and water sources along the trails. Dovan and Upper Dovan are the two places where you can agave lunch to go to Deurali. There is a small temple before the Himalayas with spectacular waterfalls on the opposite side of the trails. The tress plants become smaller and smaller as you go higher. Waling on the zig-zag climbing you will reach the Hincu Cave. Hincu cave offers the first view of the Deurali as you cross some more bridges you will reach the Deurali. Deurali is just on the bottom of the Himchuli with big rocks on both sides of the valley.

The final day of the accent trek to the Annapurna base camp starts from the Durali at 3200 Meters. This part of the trek is dangerous sometimes especially in winter when there is a lot of snow on the Himchuli. Trekkers have trails just on the bottom of the Himchuli Mountains and if there is a thick level of snow on the mountains then it falls and it had already caused many accidents. Trekkers must be very aware of these parts hiking. There are 3-4 places which are very dangerous. As you move ahead from Deurail the trails follow the stream of the Modi River and as it reaches Bagar the trails are pretty much smooth and flat before reaching the Mchhapurcha base camp again it goes accent. When you arrive at Machhapurche base camp, you will see a glimpse of Mt Fishtail, Gangapurna, Annapurna South, Himchuli and Annapurna frank. Now, the trails are pretty tough as you gain the altitude it follows the bottom of the glacier to reach the Annapurna base camp 4130 Meters.

  • Day 04: Annapurna base camp explorations and trek down to the Bamboo 2200 Meters

This is the most spectacular day of the trek because you will see the astonishing view of Mt Annapurna and other mountains in the panoramic ranges. Mountains like Annapurna south, Himchuli, Annapurna Frank, tent peak, Annapurna and Mt Fishtails are the mountains that you would see from the Annapurna base camp. There is a big glacier which comes from the ice of Mt Annapurna and it stretches down to the corner of the Machhapurche Base camp. This is another interesting thing that you can see and listen to as well. The sunrise over the Mt Annapurna range is something that trekkers may not have seen before. After spending quality time on the Annapurna base camp you will descend down to the Bamboo through the same route by following the stream of the Modi River. It takes about a whole day to arrive at Bamboo.

  • Day 05: Trek to Jhinu (Hot Spring) 5-6 Hours and rest at Jhinu and back to Pokhara in the evening

Great Annapurna Trek, lifetime experience

January 29, 2023

I booked a 10-day trek around the Annapurna region with Nepal Trek Hub. From the beginning of Communication, I was asking so many questions regarding Annapurna Trek. Every time I got my answer so quickly. Shreeram was the best man to solve each and every query regarding this Annapurna Trek. I had so much information regarding the Annapurna Trekking so I was well prepared regarding types of equipment and gear. On arrival, Shreeram Pick Up me from the airport. We had a nice conversation in hotel regarding my trip. My Guide Rajesh was there to meet me and afterwards, rajesh took care of everything. He was hero of my trip not only as a guide but also as a friend. As I am alone I was frightened that I could be board but that thing did not happen to me as Rajesh was so funny

Being single it is hard to get the accommodation in Annapurna as I understood myself, but my guide managed me super accommodation everyday. We were doing Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with Annapurna Base Camp. As my guide was Encyclopedia, I understood many things regarding Nepal such as how Nepal formed. What is its history? What are the culture and ethnicity? Language, politics, rural life and many other things that other travellers do not care about.

I was so lucky in terms of weather because from the start of my trek to end, it was crystal clear weather so I saw many mountains, terrains and landscapes. It was also good to see the rhododendron flowers blooming in the forest. I enjoyed the mesmerizing view of the Forest and mountains.

I saw Mt.Annapurna, Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt. Nilgiri, Fishtail mountain and many other beautiful peaks around the region. It was quite narrow valley but the scenery was amazing itself plus I got more impression that the local porters were carrying 60-70 kg easily in baskets to the hotel’s supplies. And the more interesting thing is they were in flip-flops.

Overall, my experience with Nepal Trek Hub was super. They were kind and helpful as well as very professional in their profession. They are about the client’s need and what they want. They were also very happy to customize the trip even in office or in Trip as well. I can recommend to anyone who is going to Nepal for any trip.
