KATHMANDU: An avalanche near Deurali 3210 meter has left at least seven people missing and some are still contact less. The official said missing are four South Koreans and three Nepalis.
The incident happened in most dangerous area, altitude of around 3,230m, nearby Deuarli. This is the most dangerous part of Avalanche area of Annapurna base camp trek route. The Heavy snowfall during the Thursday and Friday is the main reason of this avalanche.
District Police Officer of Kaski said that it has been informed that one person has been buried in the avalanche that hit Annapurna Base Camp area located in Annapurna Rural Municipality-11.according to report to Khabarhub.
“We are getting reports that four South Koreans and three Nepalis are out of contact after the incident happened in Annapurna base camp trek route. A rescue team was dispatched last night,” Mira Dhakal the official person of Nepal’s tourism Department said.
According to TAAN pokhara they have been joined to Rescue the people who are trapped on Annapurna base camp and others were searching the missing people on Saturday but still not any progress of finding the missing people
Weather conditions is very bad and the visibility still not good to search operation through the helicopter which made operation more difficult.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the avalanche hit at an altitude of 3,230 meters (10,600 feet) before noon Friday. It said five other South Korean members of the same team were safe and taking shelter in a lodge.
The missing trekkers who were on trek on their volunteer work in Nepal, the ministry said, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
Thousands of trekkers do the Annapurna base camp trek
in every year for its stunning views of the Annapurna Himalayan Range.
In 2014, a snowstorm killed about 40 people on the popular circuit, in one of the biggest trekking tragedies to hit Nepal.
